The Foundation has worked to develop a bespoke BTEC Scholarship course working with post 16 students across the local community, offering an alternative to mainstream college education and allowing students to exceed their potential in a positive learning environment.
The Academy BTEC
The Foundation in partnership with AFC Fylde Academy run a bespoke BTEC Extended Diploma in Sports coaching which allows learners to work and play as part of AFC Fylde.
Our courses take place at the multi-million-pound brand-new Fylde Sports and Education centre located in the heart of the Fylde coast. Students get the opportunity to study a full-time college education whilst playing and training with UEFA Qualified coaches.
Fully qualified and hugely experienced teaching staff cater and tailor the course for all. Using interventions and a range of teaching methods, staff strive to enable all learners to achieve and exceed their potential.
Our on-site facilities at Mill Farm allow teachers to work in smaller class sizes, unlike other colleges that work in much larger class sizes. Offering a support on a one-to-one basis where required.
All assessments have been designed / developed and broken down into small tasks for learners to complete in a bite size way without the need for exams.
We use a variety of different learning methods, such as presentations, written tasks and practical assessments.
We ensure that our assessment methods meet the needs of our learners and we support the learners to complete an assignment in a method that best suits them.
Alongside the education each learner will get the opportunity to:
- Take part in football and futsal training whilst competing within a professional futsal/football environment.
- Games programme each week in regional and national leagues and games.
Along-side the education / training programme all our learners are encouraged to take part in work within the local community teaming up with the AFC Fylde Community Foundation staff or taking part in external volunteering opportunities as we believe this is a vital way to enhance work experience and mould each learner to be ready for the world of work.
Each year the scholars go on regular trips and residentials both locally and abroad, in the past couple of years trips have included, Barcelona, Ljubljana and Gdansk whilst also getting unique behind the scenes trips at major companies such as taking part in a flight simulator at BAE Systems.
