Foundation Helps Build New Generation of Architects!

Local youngsters were given the building blocks for potential future careers at a recent half-term holiday camp.

AFC Fylde Community Foundation hosted an exciting Architecture Workshop for the children at BActive Warton Activity Camp with towering results.

The Foundation cemented its successful on-going partnership with the Frank Whittle Partnership Group by inviting one of the company’s in-house architects, Michael Bates-Tracey, to meet with the girls and boys.

As part of the session, he set them an intriguing ‘Cocktail Sticks and Midget Gems’ challenge whereby the children had to construct the sturdiest, tallest structures working together as a team.

The event tested the young participants’ patience, creativity, ingenuity and ability to work as a group and proved an overwhelming success for all involved.

The children embarked on the experiment with great enthusiasm and energy and completed the test with new-found skills, first-hand experience of architecture, not to mention impressive constructions!

Foundation Director Tom Hutton is proud of the strong partnership that has developed between the two organisations and was delighted to showcase it with such an unusual activity.

He said: “The support we are shown by The Frank Whittle Partnership Group is incredible and the Architecture Workshop is a perfect example of that.

“It was a fantastic event for the children attending our activity camp. It not only gave them an insight into the inspiring work of The FWP Group but also the chance to gain first-hand experience of something they have never tried before.

“At the Foundation, we work hard to not only entertain but educate children and provide them with fresh, new opportunities and challenges.  This workshop certainly ticked all the right boxes. Who knows, it might produce a budding new architect of the future!”
