Foundation Launches Football League for Fylde Army Veterans!
AFC Fylde Community Foundation are delighted to announce the launch of a brand new football programme for local army veterans.
The innovative programme – the first of its’ kind for the charitable arm of AFC Fylde -is being led by Foundation Physical Activity Coach Lee Geraghty who himself is an ex-army veteran.
It will provide army veterans across the Fylde with the unique opportunity of attending free weekly football sessions at the state-of-the-art Mill Farm stadium.
As well as the challenge of competing in regular matches and taking part in organised physical activity sessions with the experienced Foundation team, the programme will enable local veterans to meet on a regular basis.
The aim of the programme is to eventually establish a local AFC Fylde Veterans team, which can compete in a league format against other veteran football teams across the country.
The man with the plan, Foundation Physical Activity Coach Lee Geraghty, is perfectly placed to deliver the ground-breaking programme.
The ex-soldier only recently left the service and is pleased to have been given the opportunity to work with and support local veterans.
He said: “I’m really excited about the launch of the new veteran football programme and incredibly proud to be involved with it.
“It’s something that means a lot to me personally and I feel that it will serve a real purpose within our community.
“I’m confident that the programme will prove extremely popular and quickly become established. Hopefully the success we achieve in the Fylde will be emulated across the country and it will lead to more veterans being given the opportunity to compete!”
