How we impact our community, with Chris McNally!
AFC Fylde Community Foundation recently caught up with Extended Services Officer, Chris McNally to find out more about the work his team are doing throughout Fylde and why they are a vital part of developing the local community in which we live, work and play.
Supported by BAE Systems, the partnership allows the Foundation to have a vital impact in the lives of people living in Fylde.
Chris, how long have you worked at the Foundation and what is your job title?
My role at the Foundation is Extended Services Lead, I started 4 and a half years ago, in which we have grown an incredible amount since!
What is a standard day in the life of an Extended Services Officer?
On a normal day, we aim to meet several vulnerable people in our community. Whilst all facing different significant challenges, we aim to help them make positive changes to their lives through employment, training and education support.
What support do you offer our local community?
We offer lot’s of different methods of support to our participants depending on the areas they need to develop most. Some of our most common workshops tend to be based around the following strands employment support, mentoring, confidence building, financial budgeting, CV’s, mock interviews and a safe environment and IT skills.
What impact do you have on the community?
I’d like to think myself and my team are contributing greatly to our local community, we are allowing people to take a step forward in getting back on track with their lives and goals and if we can help make a difference, it’s something we will take great pride in doing.
What is your favourite part of your job?
When we first meet with a participant we sit down and discuss their goals and what they are wanting to achieve through our one-to-one work. After multiple sessions and hard work from both parties we can reach these goals and see a clear difference in the individuals life and future ahead of them. To me, that’s a great feeling and a great part of the job.
Most rewarding moment at the Foundation?
We worked closely with a service user around 18 months ago who was massively struggling to get back into employment after he had spent 8 years out of work. We worked really closely with the individual and ran various different workshops and sessions helping lead him back to employment.
After multiple sessions and hard work, we managed to find full time employment for the service user and he has absolutely relished the opportunity. Whilst still in the same employment now, he is secure, happy and healthy and has really taken advantage of the opportunities offered to him.
Extended Services Team, goal for the next year?
Our goal for the next 12 months is to expand further across Lancashire, we want to reach areas that people are struggling to receive the help they need. I’m confident the next 12 months will be a great time for us and I’m excited to get started!
