As part of Refugee Week 2023, the Foundation held a day trip to Fairhaven Lake for a number of local refugees and asylum seekers. The Foundation showed them local amenities and the group took part in activities to help them integrate into the local community, including boating, mini golf and a walk around Fairhaven Lake
And AFC Fylde Community Foundation and AFC Fylde were proud to support Refugees Week 2023 between 19th-25th June.
Alongside this, the Foundation has its Football Welcomes programme, a project which helps local refugees and asylum seekers integrate into the community and meet like-minded people through football. This comes with support from Lancashire County Council and Fylde Borough Council, and the sessions take place every Wednesday at Fylde Sports and Education Centre.
Yasin, who has been attending Football Welcomes for six months said "it is really good that we have come to do different things in Fylde, I didn't know this place existed and it is nice to just come and have a walk around. The people here are really nice and welcoming to us"
The Foundation has also arranged a football tournament alongside
partner clubs across Lancashire, who will each enter their own refugee team. The aim of the tournament is to bring together those with shared experiences and help them meet like-minded people.
