Foundation Helps Trainee Find Employment!

Following a successful first cohort of Trainees, AFC Fylde Community Foundation have been able to assist one of our participant in finding employment and further training. The project is ran in partnership with Northern Training Academy and is open to those aged 16 – 24 years old, who are seeking assistance with employability and training.

Jonathan had just finished temporary work at a COVID-19 testing site and found himself unemployed at the end of his contract. Jonathan has a big passion for health and fitness and wanted to enter this area as a career. He was unsure what to do next and felt he needed additional support to help work on his confidence and enter a new career.

Jonathan completed his work experience at a local gym named BActive in Warton. Jonathan wanted to complete his work experience there as he is very passionate about health and fitness. Jonathan was interested in working as a personal trainer so felt completing his 70 hours work experience at BActive would provide him with a great opportunity to learn more about this career and gain some valuable experience.

At his work experience, Jonathan shadowed personal trainers, supported staff members, worked on reception, maintained high health and safety standards, and helped customers to navigate the gym.

The traineeship project has provided Jonathan with the opportunity to start his career as a personal trainer. The project allowed Jonathan to identify what skills he needed to gain in order to become a personal trainer.

Jonathan said, “The Traineeship project and additional support from AFC Fylde Community Foundation helped me when I was unsure what to do next and how I could enter the career I wanted to. After finishing the Traineeship, Daisy and Chris supported me in finding a Level 3 qualification in Personal Training which will help me to advance my career.

“The support they provided was very hands on and helpful for my future. The traineeship sessions helped me to boost my confidence, meet new people and to work on interview techniques and customer service skills. The sessions were really engaging and I felt supported throughout the project.”

Over the past ten weeks on the Traineeship project, Jonathan has completed 70 hours work experience at a local gym, attained a qualification in both Employability and Customer Service, and has a new CV which highlights his skills relating to fitness and personal training. This has enabled him to improve his confidence and provided him a pathway to begin a Level 3 qualification in Personal Training at Blackpool and Fylde College, whilst remaining in employment at BActive.
