AFC Fylde Community Foundation are proud to boast a two-year Foundation Degree programme alongside the University of South Wales (USW) and EFL Trust.
Both AFC Fylde Community Foundation and USW have received a record high of applications for their Football and Sports Coaching degrees for this upcoming academic year.
We offer two Foundation Degree opportunities in Sports Coaching and Football Development with the option to complete a third year 'top up' degree in order to gain a full BsC. The Foundation is also able to offer a full BA(Hons) degree in Business Development.
The courses are designed for individuals wanting to attain a university qualification and are passionate about pursuing a career in the sports industry, and will run from Fylde Sports and Education Centre, offering a mixture of pre-recorded and live lectures.
We structure the course to enable students to learn and develop valuable skills within Community Development, Children and Youth coaching, as well as Sports and Event Management, with students completing 400 hours of work placement during their course of study alongside Foundation staff. The course will also provide one-to-one mentoring from trained and experienced Foundation staff members.
Tom Snibson, a 19-year-old from Warton, has been a standout student in his first 12 months, whilst also taking up a part time role within our coaching team alongside his studies.
Despite flourishing in his first year on the course, when Tom received his A-Level results this time last year, he still wasn't sure on what his next step would be.
He said: "I wasn't really sure on what to do after leaving college and then I saw the opportunity to study at the Foundation. I've always wanted to be connected to football somehow and this course gave me the opportunity to stay in football and also gain an education.
"I really enjoyed my first year. I feel like it benefitted me a lot, not just my education but also gaining opportunities in coaching to kickstart my career in this industry and I feel like I've come a long way since I started last September.
"I am looking forward to my second year. I feel like it's an opportunity for me to progress even further than I already have and hopefully continue to gain more experience."
The 19-year-old has played a vital role in helping our Holiday camps run smoothly as he has been available everyday of the summer to help run our Soccer camp and is quickly becoming one of our more experienced members of staff.
Tom said: "I help run the Foundation's development centres on a Monday and Tuesday night which is a really good opportunity to learn and develop by being around higher level coaches who have FA and UEFA qualifications.
"I have definitely benefitted from the coaching role I am fortunate enough to have, it's a massive factor in gaining more experience and learning how to deal with different situations I haven't been in before."
If you or someone you know is receiving their results today but still isn't sure what to do - just listen to Tom's suggestion: "I would definitely recommend it to students leaving college because when I left college I didn't know what to do and now this course has put me on a path for the rest of my career."
If you believe yourself or someone you know would be interested in signing up to either of our degree options, please email: chris.mcnally@afcfylde.co.uk.
